Of all the drum courses available on their store’s main website, The Drumming System is Railroad Media’s largest and most comprehensive drumming curriculum.

While the course works best with beginners, there’s still a lot of content here that will appeal to intermediates and even some advanced drummers. From the most basic drumming instruction to advanced genre playing, the Drumming System can challenge drummers of all skill levels.

The physical breakdown of this massive course is as follows: 20 training DVDs, 15 play-along CDs, and 5 detailed training workbooks. For many learn-it-yourselfers, the Learn and Master Drums course represents one of the best ways to learn to play drums from the comfort of your own home. The program is primarily DVD-based so all you really need is either a DVD-player or a computer that can play DVDs… and a drum set of course.

The Learn and Master Drums curriculum gives you all the knowledge and tools you’ll need to play drums proficiently. The course was designed with both beginners and intermediates in mind. New drummers that haven’t had much training in music have a lot of questions so Learn and Master Drums does a great job of addressing the fundamentals before moving on to more advanced playing techniques and theory.

The Learn and Master Drums training package is published by Legacy Learning Systems, a company that specializes in developing educational products. They have created other learn-at-home courses for the guitar, piano, painting, ballroom dance, and more. The course is taught by Dann Sherrill, an experienced professional studio musician and performing drummer/percussionist based out of Nashville. Not to be confused with the original Bass Drum Secrets DVD that is now out of print, Bass Drum Secrets 2.0 as it’s now called, is a specialized drum curriculum that focuses on learning to master bass drum technique.

The course is primarily video-based, with around 15 hours of lessons, over 1000 mp3 audio files, and accompanying sheet music.  BDS members receive access to a private membership website with lifetime content updates, regular live lessons that are aired almost every week, as well as previously-recorded live lessons.

If you’ve tried and failed to learn the drums before, you may have found that by stand-alone textbooks and eBooks generally don’t make for very effective lessons. Without the interactive nature of seeing and hearing the lessons, it becomes much more difficult and time-consuming to learn the drums.

If you’ve previously seen this course and you're wondering about its reputability, know that though it's largely sold online, it is actually sold at some Canadian Costcos, which says an awful lot regarding the quality of the learning package.

The Rock Drumming System was designed primarily by Jared Falk of Railroad Media. It was developed for over a year and released in 2006. Jared has been teaching drums privately for quite a while, and currently plays for 10 different bands.
